Winter Forest | Info + Comments (10)

The days are getting longer faster now and getting up for a shooting at sunrise gets earlier and earlier. I had not planned to go shooting but for some reason I woke up in the middle of the night and looking out of the window I could see the moon. Something, that hasn't happened in a while, as it has been gray most of the time. Only a few clouds were in the sky, covering up only a few stars.

I decided to go to one of my favourite locations and left early enought to be in place at sunrise. It had been snowing the day before and while most of the roads already had been cleared, the last few kilometers weren't and driving on the bike through a thick layer of snow, was kind of challenging.

And then I kind of ran out of luck. I arrive at my desired location and thick clouds show up at the exact wrong place and the road gets cleared behind me. Okay, no can do.

I stayed around a while and did this panorama because I could keep out the gray sky. It's maybe no spectacular image, more a simple and silent one. But somehow I like it. I like how there's a little bit of green in there.

I used a 0.9 GND filter here, to balance the exposure between the bright snow in the foreground and the much darker treetops. In Lightroom some colour adjustment and merge to panorama in Photoshop.

I hope you like it and thanks for visiting.

No spectacular image! Quatsch, I think it is stunning. The panorama/letter box format really suits the scene and you have chosen an excellent spot with just a few foreground trees, but a very dense forest behind. It suggests the vastness of the taiga.

Infused with silence and stillness.

Sometimes bad luck is our luck, since it forces us to make other choices. You've made the choice of bringing this instead. Which is wonderful. Great work!

I agree with you... this is a nice image precisely because it is a 'simple and silent' one. Anyone that has been in the woods under a new blanket of snow, and can appreciate that awesome silence, could appreciate and really relate to this image.
