In the Finnish language February is called "Helmikuu" which means "Pearl Month" and this was one of these days where the you get the idea why it's called like this. It is usually in February when the weather changes from mostly grey to more sunlight but it also means that it gets very cold. It happens during this time of the year that the air is filled with little bits of snow, reflecting like little pearls in the sunlight.
This day was one of those....
The trees had become white from all the frost on them and the temperature was somewhere around minus 22 degrees. I have an interesting a shot at a specific location in mind, but it's too far away. The thought of spending 3 hrs on a bike to get to that spot and back didn't look too inviting. This was one of those moments I decided to get a car.
Anyway, I decide to get the most of the situation and take a little ride to the beach to take another panorama there. The scene is a little surreal. Everything is white. The snow on the ground, the trees, the air is filled with these little flakes of snow, or frozen humidity, which seem to come out of nowhere and some thin, almost invisible clouds muting the colours in the sky.
I take the two images that I wanted, "warm" myself a little in a castle made of snow which was nearby and return home. When I arrive home, I quickly import the images and head out to work, knowing I have captured a nice moment.
I have done some adjustments in Lightroom and then merged the images to a panorama in Photoshop. In Photoshop I have done some more adjustments in LAB colormode. Back in Lightroom I did some major dust-brushing. It really takes some time on an image as large as this.
I hope you like it and thanks for visiting.- Canon
