Being There | Info + Comments (31)

Today I have a little announcement to do, before I write a little bit about this image.

I tried to implement a little blog to this photoblog on my own, when Richard from Pixyblog offered me to integrate one hosted here on Pixyblog, and the result is just great. You see a link in the header "17mm Blog" and it leads you there. Alternatively you can go directly to http://17mm.pixyblog.com/. I will post some news, links, info etc. there from time to time so feel free to subscribe to the feed if you want to.

But now the image. As I wrote on my blog, me and a friend took a little trip to the city of Ii, but we left too late and arrived just a few minutes before sunset. Luckily, we quickly found a nice, little bay at the river, where I/we had the chance to take some images. The light was really great, and we were at the right at the right place.

Problematic were the moskitos though. I didn't expect so many of them there anymore, but it was an average of 4 moskito bites per image.

Thanks a lot for visiting my site and I hope you enjoy it.

Beautiful... gorgeous sky and detail.

Stunning! This image just pops right at you! Is this HDR? The detail is super sharp. What kind of sharpening technique do you use if I may ask? Or is it the lens itself... Very curious.

Thanks a lot everybody for your kind words. Makes me very happy to hear that you like my work.
@Al: No Al, this no HDR. I used Gradual Neutral Density filters here. If I remember correctly it were two with a total range of 5 stops (I may be wrong on this one, might also only have been one with 3 Stops), and then I filled in the shadows a little with Fill-Light in Lightroom, where I do maybe 90% of my processing. As for the sharpening (I just checked) I didn't add anything here, except for output-sharpening for screen when doing the export in Lightroom. Other than that some minor colour adjustments in LAB-mode using PS.

Very nice photo Sven and I would say well worth the mosquito bites. The glass water surface and reflections are really nice.

My congrats to this brilliant shot. I thought it was HDR, too. I just have to put GND filters and insect repellants to my shopping list ;-)

This is beautiful. I love the stillness in the water and the great colors.

This truly is an amazing photo. I was pretty sure it needed to be a HDR (and a good one too!) but then I see you commented on that before -
It is stunning beautiful, sharp and with strong yet soft colors,- well done!

Excellent shot !!! Could you tell us what ND setup you have. Do you use glass threaded filters of have acrylic Lee-type System ? I intend to buy one set of filters but need some input here...

Posted by rgroenke on August 27, 2008 at 04:33 PM EEST #

Thanks rgoenke. The filters that I use is the Lee Filter system and the material goes by the name resin. I like them very much and use them all the time ever since I got them. I started with a starter pack and then added more filters from time to time.
If you have more questions, feel free to drop me a mail.

Gorgeous shot! The colors are very nice and you can almost see the clouds moving in the shot. Very crisp foreground that kind of trails away as the horizon disappears...great work!
