Weird Colour Issue between Lightroom and Photoshop

Posted Friday, 16 October 2009 by Sven Seebeck

Recently I ran into a little Photoshop/Lightroom annoyance which I wondered whether or not anyone of you ran into the same issue.

Like a lot of you, I have recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and I'm not sure if this problem is related to the update, or if I the problem existed already before, and I simply didn't notice. Also it might only be visible in black and white images, something I also haven't done to such extent before.

I noticed that the Lightroom preview of my B&W images have some sort of green cast to it, whereas the Photoshop version of the image doesn't. Since the from within Lightroom exported JPG doesn't have this green cast to it it's not that big deal.

I took a screenshot at 100% to demonstrate this.

Here's the Photoshop version:

Here's the Lightroom version:

Lightroom

As you can see, the Lightroom image has a clear green cast in the shadow areas, whereas the Photoshop image doesn't.

  • Lightroom uses ProPhotoRGB and to guarantee persistent colours, I use the same colour space in Photoshop.
  • I rebuild the previews, but the issue is still clearly visible and both apps are up-to-date with the latest version.

I searched the forums but couldn't seem to find a solution for this and I hoped anyone of you could confirm this behavior, had similar issues, or a solution at hand? Feel free to leave a note in the comments.

UPDATE: It only seems to affect the image in the Library Mode, in the Develop Mode it appears fine. (Thanks bnsonic)
