Custom color profile switching back to default in Vista
Posted Saturday, 27 September 2008 by Sven Seebeck
Today I write about a problem, a temporary solution and have a question which I hope you might help me with…
A few days ago it started that Vista first correctly loads the custom color profile for my monitor (when changing users or after restart for example) only to switch back to the default profile after a few seconds. That’s kind of a recent problem, which never showed up before.
As a workaround I figured out, that when I manually launch the startup tool, which usually loads the profile into the graphic card to switch back to my custom profile it works and doesn’t switch back to default. Though this is not the most elegant version, it at least works.
I remember reading about a similar problem somewhere, but now I’m unable to find this again. So if anyone had similar problems and solved them more elegant it would be nice to leave a note with a more permanent solution in the comments.

get a macintosh? it will do what you tell it to do and nothing else. it won't INTERFERE.
my first computer was a sinclair ZX81 then I had a Victor (aka Sirius) then a series of PC from 8086 to pentium. I have some amount of experience!
then somebody gave me an "old" mac.
I had both for some years as I evolved on Mac whilst using PCs at work, and tending to my man's laptop PC (far too often in my opinion).
he finally switched to mac too, and we said goodbye to viruses, bugs, unwanted processes...

In fact I also use a Mac but that one is unfortunately way to slow to run for example Photoshop successfully. I have been using PC's and Macs for multiple year side by side and at least for my experience and my needs it doesn't nowadays make a big difference anymore.
My Vista installation runs, aside from this recent inconvenience, absolutely fine and I never had any issues with it. Funny enough for example my external Firewire iSight works much better on my Vista installation than on my Mac.
I think it's not possible for any OS to run just flawlessly. I have also some annoying things going on my Mac running Leopard, meaning both OS's have their pros and cons. Though I have to admit, that if I would have had enough financial resources I would have opted for the Mac. Not because, I think it's much better, but because it's more stylish. And I like stylish things. But now for the same money, I just upgraded my PC and continued to use my legally purchased PC version of PS and got me a new lens.
But I'm still continue looking for a non-manual solution for this problem.
